Transcript: March 3, 1989 / Dear Ken, Thank you for your informative letter on my umpiring career. Yes — I really had a lot of exciting moments in my twenty years of officiating — sometimes when I review my strange and exciting games over the years — I can’t believe that all these once in a lifetime episodes happened to me. I have to say that the [Jim Bunning] perfect game and the Hank Aaron 715 th homer were the highlights of my career — especially — when I waved my arm at second base to signal the homer that broke Babe Ruths’ record. This sort of thing usually happens only to ball players. More details are listed at below. Also have listed for sale handwritten letters by Bill Jurges, Monte Irvin, Julia Ruth, Larry Jackson, Harry Walker, Bobby Bragan, Joe Garagiola , Phil Cavaretta, Lee Mac Phail (typed), Stan Musial (typed). I’ve been a collector since 1970. I learned about collecting autographs through columns in old trade magazines, such as The Trader Speaks and Newsreel. Unless otherwise noted, each was personally obtained for my own collection or inventory. 14-year-old exhibitor at the third and last annual Brea Show in 1971. This SoCal get-together was a forerunner of the Nat’l Sports Collectors Con. Member of the Universal Autograph Collectors Club (UACC) and Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). Contributor to SABR’s ongoing Baseball Biography Project. Great nephew and sole researcher of Paul Martin, who illustrated twenty magazine covers for Collier’s, played against B. Tilden and in three US Opens. I’ve been a subscriber and occasional advertiser to the major hobby publications, since the early 1970s.
