Frederic (Lord) Leighton Hand Written, R. Signed Letter Dated 12/1/1896…. A neatly folded and well preserved letter in a hand written opened envelope dated Jan 13 96 with a Kensington post mark. On the reverse is a LONDON. The envelope is hand written and addressed to Ernest Waterlow a member of the Royal Watercolour Society, and president of the society in 1897. The envelope has a tear to the opening flap. There is Lord Leighton written in pencil to the front of the envelope, I assume this is Waterlow’s doing. The letter is dated one day earlier than the post mark, 12.1.96 on headed paper addressed from 2 Holland Park Road. This date is only 13 days before Lord Leighton death, so probably one of the last letters he wrote. The letter thanks the members for the kind words and mentions congratulations. Not only an Artist and the President of the Acadamy of Arts but also one of the first commanders of the Artists Rifles, volunteer regiment. The item “Frederic (Lord) Leighton R. A.
